Get to Know Me
Kristi Horst, LPC
Originally I am from California, but came to Alaska for a new adventure. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 2014, and a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University in 2017. I have worked in the mental health field in Alaska since 2014.

I take an integrative approach to therapy which incorporates my experience and training in Attachment Theory, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems Level 1 (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT), Child-Centered Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Mindfulness practices. I am also an EMDR certified therapist.

I am a trauma-informed therapist who enjoys working with clients to process and resolve issues related to adverse family of origin experiences. I find it is essential when working with my clients to develop a therapeutic partnership by first meeting them where they are at, and then working collaboratively through the process of healing.

When working with couples, I utilize the research and theories developed by Doctors John and Julie Gottman to facilitate better connection and strengthen communication. I also love to use Terry Real's model of Relational Life Therapy which incorporates how our family of origin stories can impact our current relationships.

I am passionate in the utilization of IFS Informed EMDR therapy to assist adolescents, individuals, couples, and families with expressing emotions, developing communication and social skills, processing trauma, and problem solving.

I am also a spouse and a parent who has personally benefitted from therapy and enjoys helping others establish a better internal relationship that impacts their external relationships.
